Amulet box / ga'u

A copper gilt ga'u in the shape of a portable shrine. Decorated with the eight auspicious Buddhist symbols in Newari style repousse work. The central window is covered over with glass and the contents are in place. Contained is a brass figure of the Historical Buddha, seated in the enlightenment pose. The figure is surrounded by red silk. The back has been soldered onto the main body of the ga'u and some silver solder has been transferred to the bottom front of the box. The front panel is decorated with beading around the edge.
