LL 187

Information

An andiron (more commonly known as a firedog) is a metal stand used for supporting wood in an open fireplace. It is usually one of a pair. The figure shown here is the Roman god, Jupiter, identified by the lightning bolts the figure holds in his right hand and the eagle at his left foot. Its pair shows his wife, the Roman goddess, Juno.
