Apis Bull Figure

Solid cast copper alloy statuette of an Apis bull, lying down with hooves turned to one side and tail over back. Collar round the neck, trapping over the back with incised detail. The pedestal is hollow. The Apis bull was regarded as the ‘ba’ (soul) of the god Ptah of Memphis and thus as a manifestation of his power. Described by Professor Percy Newberry as being of a "fine technique” and dating to the Saite Period. The disc is lost from the forehead.
