Apollo is a god in Greek mythology and one of the Twelve Olympians. He is the son of Zeus (father of the gods) and is the god of healing and medicine. He is also the god of music and poetry and here holds a lyre to symbolise this role. He also holds a tablet inscribed with a line by the Roman poet, Horace: Carpe Diem, Quam Minimum Credula Postero (“Size the moment and trust to the future as little as you can”).
