Apsley House

WAG 7281

Information

This drawing is a study for a print of the same name made in 1913, displayed nearby. It shows Aplsey House, London, the former home of the Duke of Wellington (1769-1852). Hay chose an unusual view of the house for this drawing, ignoring its neo-classical façade. Instead the drawing is angled to include the nearby Wellington Arch that was built between 1825 and 1827 to commemorate Wellington's victory at Waterloo.
