Archemorus (in the absence of Hypsipyle) killed by a serpent.

WAG 7648

This piece is part of a group of drawings by British artist and book illustrator Edward Francis Burney, depicting scenes from Greek and Roman history and mythology. Archemorous, also known as Opheltes, was killed by a serpent when his foster mother abandoned him temporarily to show the 'Seven against Thebes' where they could find a stream to drink.
