Arlington Row, Bibury, Gloucester : Grey Morning
WAG 560
Information
Benett was a landscape painter and the youngest child of William Benett, a Master in the High Court and collateral descendent of Sir Isaac Newton. He had a great admiration for the natural landscape and viewed his paintings as a way of recording an England that was disappearing.
Arlington Row is a row of 17th-century weavers' cottages in Bibury, Gloucestershire, which is now owned by the National Trust.
This painting was presented by the artist's sister, Miss Sarah Benett.
