Armistead Centre Pride T-Shirt

This t-shirt was worn at Liverpool Pride in 2015 by a supporter of the Armistead Centre Liverpool. The Armistead Centre opened in 1997 on Bolton Street to provide free sexual health advice and guidance to LGBT people and sex workers in Liverpool. The Centre was named after the gay American author Armistead Maupin in order to discreetly identify the centre as serving the LGBT community without deterring those who might not be ‘out’. In 2004 the Armistead Centre moved to Stanley Street, embedding the centre in the heart of Liverpool’s LGBT community. Armistead Maupin visited the centre in 2007. In December 2013 the Armistead Centre moved to its current site in The Beat, Hanover Street due to the centralisation of community health services across Liverpool. Today the Armistead Centre offers a range of services to support the LGBT community as well as facilitating space for local LGBT groups to meet.
