Ash Chest Lid

59.148.331b

Information

Gabled lid from an ash chest, flowers in the pediment. It is not certain whether the lid originally belonged to any of the ash chests in the Ince collection. The earliest recorded association is with 59.148.325 (ash chest of T. Flavius Eutyches). In Blundell's 'Engravings' the lid appears on 59.148.312a (ash chest of C. Iulius Hirmaiscus) and is currently associated with 59.148.331, the ash chest of Etrilia Danae. It should be noted that the lid's measurements do not correspond exactly with any of these ash chests.
