Axe head

Neolithc stone axe head found in waterlogged deposits at Tranmere Pool, Wirral. It was discovered in the 19th century with part of its wooden handle still attached but that was not conserved and soon perished. Its surface is polished for a smooth finish. Petrological analysis indentifies it as from Great Langdale, Cumbria.
