A Bacchanalian procession of monks towards a temple

This drawing was attributed by Christie's to Pier Leone Ghezzi (1674-1755). Ghezzi was an Italian Rococo painter and caricaturist from Rome, and probably the first professional caricaturist. He made religious paintings for Roman churches but is best known for penned and etched caricatures of Rome's residents.
