Ballet

Laura Knight's paintings of the theatre and ballet are amongst her most well known. She first exhibited a number of ballet paintings in 1912, and was later (1919 and 1928) granted permission to study the dancers of the Diaghilev Ballet backstage when they were in London. This painting was first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1936 when Knight became a member.
