Basket Lid

Rectangular lid of a palm fibre basket. From the British School of Archaeology in Egypt excavations at Tarkhan. Consolidated with paraffin wax by the excavator in 1912. See 'Tarkhan I and Memphis V' by William Matthew Flinders Petrie, London , 1913, viii.3 IX.8, p24. CONDITION NOTE (1998): two circular mats adjoined, two loose fragments, incomplete, previous repair and fill with wax, slight fragmentation but stable, surface dirt, reed is dry.
