Bathsheba at the Bath

WAG 1995.356

Information

Three female figures in the foreground to the left are being watched by a bearded man shown on a balcony of a building in the upper-right background. The left-most female in the foreground (Bathsheba) is seated and almost totally naked apart from drapery sketched over her upper thighs and groin. She looks down to the left and her centrally-parted hair has been dressed into a chignon on the back of her head. Visible behind her head and under some vigorously-sketched bushy trees is a previous position of her face looking back and upwards towards the bearded man (King David). Behind Bathsheba are two dressed female servants one of whom is holding a large vase with both hands.
