Beaker
LL 101
Information
Beaker with bulbous stem, slightly spreading base, and flaring mouth. On the bulb are four panels with European ladies, three in gardens - one on a swing - and one in an interior. On the neck are four ju-i (ruyi ''as-you-wish'') shaped pendants, painted with fruit and foliage in white on a blue ground, the edges moulded in light relief; between them are ju-i designs; and below, floral scrolls. On the lower part are lightly moulded leaf-shaped panels with floral scrolls. Borders of hatched vandyke pattern.
An early and interesting example of European designs copied on porcelain by a Chinese painter. The costumes suggest a date about 1700.
