This unidentified figure wears a scallop shell breastplate. His clothing shows that he is a member of the Burgundian Order of the Golden Fleece. It is possible that he represents a military saint. In the 19th century this sculpture stood in the Great Hall
at Scarisbrick Hall, Lancashire.
The unidentified sculptor is known for a body of work. They are named after a major piece in the Dutch Town of Elsloo.
