This drawing depicts the construction of Liverpool Cathedral's Lady Chapel, which was the first part of the Cathedral to be finished in 1910. Liverpool Cathedral is famous for being the largest cathedral in Britain. Designed by English architect, Giles Gilbert Scott (1880 - 1960), construction began in 1904 and was completed in 1978. Bulcock lived and worked in the city of Liverpool. Between 1899 and 1911 he exhibited regularly in the Liverpool Autumn Exhibitions, including a work entitled 'The Rise of Liverpool Cathedral' in 1909, which is thought to be this drawing.
