Bird Figure

Two other brass birds from Benin very similar to this one (15.8.04.34a & b) were described as 'modern work' in museum records. This bird may have been made by the same brass caster in Benin City who made the other two and it was probably recently made when the steam ship engineer Arnold Ridyard acquired it from an unknown intermediary for the museum in 1904.
