Information

The Swan River Colony was a British settlement formed in 1829, in the region now known as Perth, the capital of Western Australia. Many British and Irish people immigrated to Swan River in the hope of obtaining land. The region of Swan River is part of the lands of the Nyoongar people. They knew their lands intimately and used objects such as boomerangs to hunt animals for food. Boomerangs were often thrown to hit birds or small animals for food. This boomerang was obtained by Mr Charles Brown and was in Norwich Castle Museum until it came to Liverpool in 1956.
