Bowl

52.38.123.11

Information

A deep hemispherical bowl with a flat base and two small horizontal ledge lugs. The bowl was hand made. The decoration on the body is in Red Polished II type with a rich red surface and purplish stains on the exterior, giving it a mottle effect. This type of mottle effect decoration is more common in pottery from the southern sites of Psematismenos rather the northern coastal site of Vounous. It is likely the the bowl was an import from the south. A few similar pottery imports have been found in the Vounous cemeteries. One of the lugs has two holes while the other lug is almost unformed. The bowl was found inside the large basin 52.38.123.7 together with 52.38.123.8, 9, 10 and 12 in the chamber of tomb 123 from cemetery B in Vounous.
