Information

Greenstone (schist?) bowl with flaring convex sides, an off-set rounded rim, high shoulders and a flat base, the interior with a circular countersunk recess. Rim chipped. Has previoulsy been dated to the Old Kingdom. Purchased at Sotheby's, London, 1922 (MacGregor sale) Lot 1064/5: "Five miscellaneous Bowls, in black basalt and greenish slate, and a flat-bottomed Vessel in mottled marble, the larger of the bowls and the flat-bottomed bowl in slate; found at Luxor; Ancient Empire."
