Bowl

Black burnished bowl with rounded base. Rim edge cut with lines. Acquired by Sir Henry Wellcome in 1922 from the collection of Rev. William MacGregor, Sotheby's, London, Lot 1783/5: "Five hemispherical Bowls, in black polished terra-cotta, varying from 6 3/4in to 3 5/8in diam, the largest with dentate ornament in incised work just below the flat rim, all found at Meroë in 1910". CONDITION NOTE (1998): Chipped, surface worn, surface loss, pitted, crazed, surface dirt, auction label adhered to surface.
