Bramerton Woods, end reach on the River Yare, near Norwich
WAG 2258
Information
John Thirtle was a leading member of the Norwich School of painters: watercolourists who painted the Norfolk landscape, making a significant contribution to the development of watercolour painting in the early 19th century.
This watercolour shows his ability to paint the play of light on clouds and water. Thirtle became known for painting river landscapes and atmospheric thunder storms. This is well demonstrated here.
