1962.333.2

Information

Bronze hemispherical cup marked in ink "IBRIM 192...". CONDITION NOTE 1998: Some concretions, corroded on exterior. For 3 years at an annual subscription of £125 the museum supported the British National Committee for Nubian Antiquities to assist in the UNESCO organised international exploration of the Nile Valley area that was to be flooded by the building of the Aswan High Dam. At the time (1960) the Egyptian government had passed a new antiquities law whereby (excluding unique objects) a half share of the objects found during excavations could be exported. In return for Liverpool's support the Egypt Exploration Society allotted 3 objects to the museum (1962.333.1-3) on 24th November 1962.
