Information

A large silver-gilt trumpet brooch. An elaborate scroll pattern decorates the head (two large open scrolls with complex moulding inside; separated by two trumpet-like mouldings). In the centre of the bow of the brooch is a petalled knop. The lower bow is triangular in section and has two curvilinear relief-moulded designs resembling stylised waves, with projecting points, and diminishing in size toward the foot. Extensive evidence of parcel gilting. The brooch terminates in petalled foot. The pin and head loop are missing. The catchplate has 6 or 7 perforations which form part of a possibly zoomorphic decorative element on one side.
