Information

Fibula constructed of silver with swollen bow (ad arco ingrossato). Nearly round in cross-section, with smooth surface articulated by three ribbed transverse bands of twisted wire wrapped around the centre: central ring is plain, one outer ring (very fragmentary) of twisted fine wire, the other of beaded wire. On the belly an irregular longitudinal seam. Fibula is rather heavy, possibly due to a core of other material left inside the bow during casting process. Missing: spring, catch, tip of pin, portion of wire decoration. Surfaces rough from corrosion; traces of blue-green corrosion products from bronze, presumably bronze artifacts in the same deposit.
