Brooch

M12292

Information

Very large, ornate fibula with open bow and elongated catch (tip of catch, spring and pin missing.) The bow had a large, spherical knob on each side, at its widest point (one knob missing), and three water birds cast in one piece with the bow, spaced as if sitting along the top surface. A band of transverse grooves encircles each end of the bow, with an irregular semicircle of grooves surrounding each knob. The catch has been repaired with two rivets, and there was originally another two rivet repair near the spring (one rivet remains in place).
