Buckle

LL 2245

Information

Half of a buckle made of cut steel with a blue jasper medallion. The jasper medallion has white jasper sprigging which depicts a young girl feeding birds. The small projecting hook, which would have fitted into an 'eye' on a similar shaped piece, can just be seen on the right side of the buckle. Wedgwood was friends with the Birmingham industrialist Matthew Boulton who was well known for his metalwork. It is very likely that this buckle was made at Boulton's Soho manufactory.
