Bulb pot

A pot in black basalt, made for growing bulbs indoors. Five bulbs can be grown at once in this pot. The fashion for this method of cultivation increased in 1749, after Henri Duhamel du Monceau (1700-1782) announced that he had grown Hyacinth bulbs in water.
