Information

Hellenistic rectangular chest. The chest has floral relief ornament on front side, other sides plain; carved with low, rectangular feet at corners. The front side of the chest is carved with flat, shallow mouldings at top and bottom, a large rosette with four-petalled center in the center of the field, emerging from up-curved acanthus leaves; in both upper corners, a four-petalled rosette. The chest is somewhat abraded on edges and relief; the lid is eroded. It is quite possible that the lid does not belong to the chest, but they are surely close in date and style. A note in the archival materials states “inside filled with cremated bones,” but these are no longer present.
