Bust of Emperor Septimus Severus. His gaze is turned to the right, with a full head of thick curly hair brushed into four thick locks onto the forehead. The pupils of the eyes are drilled into two hollow circles with a vertical ridge between, the tear ducts indicated. Beard and moustache. The head is set into a later bust, with a label reading 'septimius severus 146-211 A.D. Sculpt. 2nd Cent. A.D.' Septimus Severus (born AD 145 AD died AD 211) was the first Roman emperor from North Africa (coast of modern Libya). He came to Rome at the age of 18 and became a senator. He was a successful military commander in both domestic and foreign wars.
