Information

Talbot was trained by John Ruskin, but died quite young after exhibiting early promise. The work was given to the Walker by Hardwick Rawnsley, one of the founders of the National Trust in 1895. When he gave it to the gallery in 1917, the First World War was still happening, and Rawnsley asked that the work not be catalogued until peace should come.
