Candlestick

This Griffin candlestick was copied, by Wedgwood, from an original model designed by the architect Sir William Chambers (1726-1796). Chambers himself lent the model, which was made in ormolu, to Wedgwood to be copied. Wedgwood made his copies in black basalt, which greatly reduced the price. The matching candlestick in the pair is LL 1002.
