Canopic Jar and Lid

Canopic jar with a lid in the form of Hapi the baboon, who protected the lungs of the deceased. Facial features picked out in black. The jar is empty. Height of the lid is 90 mm and the width of lid is 120 mm. John Garstang's team excavated about 250 tombs at "Beni Hasan South" near the mouth of the gorge of the Speos Artemidos in 1904, but this work is less well recorded than that of the earlier shaft tombs he excavated at Beni Hasan.
