Information

Matić’s work addresses themes of identity and nationality, as well as feminism and queerness. They often reference sub-cultures to re-examine the connections between West Indian and white working-class culture in Britain. These photographs are part of the artist’s series ‘flags for countries that don’t exist but bodies that do’. It includes intimate portraits of the artist, their friends and family, alongside photographs of contemporary Britain. Collectively, the series questions the notion of ‘Britishness’ today.
