Black and white postcard titled "Chief's Canoe on the River Niger, Northern Nigeria". Published by Moyea Series, London. Image no. 115. Image shows a Hausa Chief and paddlers in a wooden canoe, whilst Hausa onlookers watch from the riverbank. Original caption on verso reads, "Excellent canoes are made by the Hausas [the largest ethnic group in West and Central Africa] out of the trunks of trees. The Large state canoes used by the native kings require from twenty to thirty paddlers to propel them. The Hausa paddles are about seven feet in length."
