Chimney piece panel: Wild boar with young
LL 133
Information
This marble relief panel was originally part of a chimney piece. A chimney piece formed a decorative frame around an open fire, and this panel was the central decoration above the fire. It shows a woodland with a wild boar surrounded by its young and a fox approaching from the right. It has been related to panels from the boudoir fireplace of Picton Castle, Pembrokeshire, which was decorated by Henry Cheere between 1749 and 1752.
