A Church Interior

Steenwyck painted many church interiors. This one is probably imagined, rather than based on a real place. The use of oil paint on copper was ideal for including fine detail. Some of the figures appear well-dressed, while others are in ragged clothing. On the left, one man holds his cap out to a wealthy figure. The woman on the right glances towards us, as though she has noticed us watching.
