Fragment of a clavi (decorative band) in wool and linen. Ground of green wool. Colours include red, natural and green. Motif of a central swimming or flying figure holds and is surrounded by a flowering stem, bordered on each side by formal plant motifs. The band ends in a circular finial with a cruciform rosette, the complete band with a wreath border. Technique: open plain weave ground. Tapestry band with built up shapes, slits, curved weft, soumak. Outline with lines of crossed soumak. Band sewn to ground. 

Ends per cm: 16 over ground, 9 over tapestry; Picks per cm: 12 over ground, 54 over tapestry. 

Condition: Very worn, fragile, especially on ground.
