A Coastguardsman

This is a study after 'The Coastguardsman', a watercolour which Woodlock exhibited at the Liverpool Autumn Exhibition in 1899 (no. 819). It was reproduced on the cover of 'Notes on the pictures - Liverpool Autumn Exhibition, 1899' and was presumably made for this purpose (i.e. to get the correct size). These notes also featured an interview with Woodlock who was in charge of hanging the exhibition that year. In the interview he describes his favourite works in the exhibition and his pleasure in finding the perfect places to display them.
