Coffin Fragment

Currently not on display

Fragment from the corner of a Middle Kingdom coffin. Painted decoration on the interior and incised painted text on the exterior. On one side is part of the standard offering formula, carved in sunk relief with the signs coloured in blue pigment. On the other side is the very finely painted head and face of a man, probably the 'tp'-sign. The dowel holes and pegs are still on place.
