Information

Fragment from the corner of a Middle Kingdom coffin. Painted decoration on the interior and incised painted text on the exterior. On one side is part of the standard offering formula, carved in sunk relief with the signs coloured in blue pigment. On the other side is the very finely painted head and face of a man, probably the 'tp'-sign. The dowel holes and pegs are still on place. Between 1912 and 1920 he spent five fieldwork seasons at Meir, recording the rock-cut tombs in this part of Middle Egypt, from where this object was collected. CONDITION NOTE (1998): Incomplete, dry and splitting, loss of pigment, surface loss, surface dirt.
