Iron Age coin found near Malpas, Cheshire: north eastern gold stater, issued by VEP CORF. Iron Age coins are gold staters of the North Eastern series, of a type inscribed VEP CORF. Malpas lies well beyond the western limits of the circulation area of North Eastern coinage, which was focussed on Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and surrounding counties. North Eastern coinage is usually attributed to the Corieltavi. Single finds of both Western and North Eastern coinage are known from the North West, but there are no reported hoards of either from this area.
