12 photographs relating to families of master mariners Turner Russell (1832-1918) and Alexander Kidd (1830-1883) - three generations of Blue Funnel Line employees. Russell captained vessels for the Booth and Allan Lines, while Kidd was lost at sea on 2 September 1888, captaining the Blue Funnel Line vessel S.S. "Ajax". Russell's son, Joseph Hodgson (1861-1933) married Kidd's daughter, Annie Agnes (1862-1912), in 1887 at St. Peter's Church, Rock Ferry. Sarah Agnes Russell (1891-1983), daughter of Joseph and Annie, married the Blue Funnel engineer John Dodd Soulsby (1886-1966).
