Information

Lewis Baumer (1870 - 1963) was born in London and trained at South Kensingston Design School, St John's Art School and the Royal Academy School there. He worked primarily as a painter and illustrator. Baumer began exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1893 and at the Liverpool Autumn Exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery from 1907. His illustrations appeared in the Pall Mall Magazine and Punch from 1893 and 1897 respectively. One of his portraits, of the writer Noel Streatfield, is in the National Portrait Gallery's collection (NPG 5941).
