Condom Pack, Liverpool LGBT Pride

MOL.2015.98.16

Information

At the time that this pack was given out at Liverpool Pride 2015 there were 218 places where free contraceptives were available from the NHS in Merseyside. The majority of these were not specifically marketed towards the LGBT community. By 2014 sexually transmitted infection rates in gay men had reached ‘crisis levels’ (David Stuart, 56 Dean Street Sexual health Clinic, speaking in the Independent 9 February 2014). Gonorrhoea, chlamydia, and syphilis levels were soaring and new HIV infection rates reached a record high. In response to the need for LGBT specific sexual health information, organisations such as Liverpool’s Armistead Centre distribute sexual health information and material such as this safe sex pack to the LGBT community freely across the city, including hundreds of condoms and lubricant sachets at Liverpool Pride.
