Corfe Castle and the Isle of Purbeck

This painting was done outdoors as a study for a larger painting of a castle in Dorset. The artist has used quick brushstrokes to block in the shapes of the hills and shadows thrown across them by the clouds. This picture is more spontaneous than the finished landscapes he painted in his studio.
