Information

At a Coronation Street party in Kingswood Avenue Aintree, this Royal commemorative ceramic mug was given to 8 year old Joseph Abbott. To celebrate Queen Elizabeth II being crowned on June 2 1953, children received gifts like this mug, a tin of chocolate, a spoon or coin. Joseph later served in the Royal Navy and the mug travelled across the world with him as a small keepsake from home. Coronation parties were happening across the nation, with buffets of spam sandwiches, jelly and ice cream. For the Royal banquet, Florist Constance Spry and Chef Rosemary Hume created a dish especially for the occasion, which later become know as, 'Coronation Chicken'.
