Information

Roughly oval-shaped cosmetic palette used to grind pigments such as malachite or galena, from which eye-paint was made. This palette has been worn through by constant use. There is a drilled perforation at the edge, no broken. Excavated in 1904 at Abydos from the lowest deposits of the early town, within the walls of the Osiris Temenos. Marked in ink "ABYDOS II. Pl. I". This is a reference to a publication with an illustration of the object, but the correct reference is actually Abydos part III pl. I. CONDITION NOTE (1998): Chipped around edges, hole in centre, surface dirt, scratched.
