Cosmetic Vessel

Jar, ovoid shaped tapering from shoulder to flat base. From tomb 674 A'08 at Abydos. Compare with W. M. F. Petrie, Stone and Metal Vases (London, 1937) no. 579. Danson Catalogue 2 no. 270: Carved vase of blue and white marble - the body made in one piece, and the ring round the mouth made separately and cemented on - 4 1/16 high outside 3 3/4 inside 8 9/16 wide. Flattened base - found at Abydos by Prof. Garstang - tomb no. 674. Broken and repaired III dynasty. (With a sketch). CONDITION NOTE (1998): Rim chipped, surface dirt.
