Information

Small sized calcite kohl pot with flat base, shouldered body, constricted neck and flat rim. Deep yellow colour. From grave M9 at el-Mahasna. Marked on the base 'M9' in pencil by the excavator. John Garstang led excavations for the Egyptian Research Account at el-Mahasna (1900-01), a large region that included a Predynastic habitation area, cut through by later Old Kingdom to Middle Kingdom graves, labelled 'site M', with published tombs numbered between M1 and M560. Previously thought to be from Abydos and also Messawiyeh (south of Esna), a cemetery excavated and surveyed by John Garstang and Harold Jones in 1906.
